Central St Martins graduate showcases her Indian inspired kitchens

Central St Martins graduate Anjali Shah made her debut in the Emerging Brands zone of 100% Design, with her bespoke kitchen furniture collections.

Having studied a Masters Degree in Furniture Design, Anjali Shah has designed and created kitchen collections inspired by Indian architecture.

Based on a central island, the kitchens are made in India as flatpack furniture and then assembled in the UK.

She explained why she chose to specialise in kitchen design: “In the culture I come from, we say the family that eats together stays together. A kitchen is an integral part of the home.

“A lot of people these days work from home, so I wanted to give [the kitchen] a feel that it’s not a mundane looking environment. I wanted [to create] something that looks different and something that attracts people.

“All my kitchens have dining as well as cooking incorporated into the room, so the family can spend time together.”

Shah continued: “I have had a lot of enquiries from architects because a lot of people want exclusive furniture designs but they don’t know where to go because most places have similar looking furniture.”

100% Design takes place from September 17-20 at Earl’s Court in London.
