The May Design Series will host a seminar programme, spanning retail and contract design sectors, with the keynote speaker named as the creative director of Bang & Olufsen, Johannes Torpe. He will speak about the entertainment behind retail design and revaluating the customer experience to create immersive spaces.
Looking at retail design, Torpe will be joined by Founder and CEO of Blacksheep Tim Mutton who will talk about how design can create the ultimate customer experience. And Philip Hanford at Campaign and Chris Sanderson of Future Laboratory will host a presentation on their current project at Selfridges in London.
In addition, there will be a Retail Roundtable, with five retail leaders discussing day-to-day details, from property expansion through to product selection.
For the contract market, Craig Knight, director of IDR will look at spaces that work, fusing psychology, management and design. He will be joined by director of Spacelab, Andrew Budgen, who will walk through his projects with Virgin Money and Leo Burnett, to help employees work better together. While Pippa Nissen, of Nissen Richard Studio, will be talking about how to unlock a space creating drama, from the eyes of an architect and theatre designer.
Also joining the seminar programme is Robert White, a consultant on architect business strategy to the likes of Zaha Hadid and Richard Rogers and Interior Architect of the Year Simon Jordan from Jump Studios.
Completing the seminar line-up, there will be a theatre with a programme dedicated to lighting. Eion Billings of Billings Jackson will dissect the designer’s role in lighting, while John Bullock of jb-ld will talk about residential lighting and Joost Heremen of Foster + Partner will discuss hospitality lighting. The May Design Series features five sectors including Furniture, Décor, Lighting, Kitchens & Bathrooms and DX and is nearing 300 brands, although the organiser claims the show will amass 400 brands. It runs from May 18-20 at London ExCel.
