Appliance manufacturer appoints administrators
Major domestic appliance manufacturer Baumatic has entered administration, with Grant Thornton appointed administrator on October 8, 2013.
The administration is being handled by David Dunkley and Robert Lewis, who are currently in discussions with a number of interested parties to try and secure a future for the business.
The company has 150 employees primarily at its head office in Reading and its warehouse in Didcot, and the company turned over £45m.
A spokesperson from Grant Thornton commented: “Customers, suppliers and other stakeholders concerned are being contacted accordingly with more information on how they might be affected.”
Kitchens & Bathrooms News spoke to an employee of a Baumatic kitchen studio, who wished to remain nameless, who said they were very lucky they didn’t have any outstanding orders and had already swapped to Hotpoint. However, the company had recently taken stock of a new range of appliances on display, which cost “a tidy sum”.
While manager of Kitchen Vogue in Northampton, David Valentine said: “I’m not surprised. We haven’t dealt with them for about seven years but we’re still on the website.”
