Visitors to Blum’s stand at this year’s Interzum trade fair in Cologne have helped to raise €100,530 for “Light for the World”.

The charity which focuses on helping blind and visually impaired people in the poorest areas of the globe was chosen for the sixth time by the manufacturer.

Guests to the stand were asked to leave a signature in the visitor’s book where Blum would donate €30 for every signature which was left.

According to the charity every five seconds an adult in the Third World loses their sight and every minute a child goes blind.

50% of these are said to be down to Cataracts and with the €30 donation made through Blum a 15-minute sight saving operation can be performed.

Manging Director Gerhard E. Blum commented: “We donate €30 for every signature – that’s the price for an eye operation.

“We have been supporting ‘Light for the World’ for many years now. With our donation, we are able to help children and older people, the weakest members of society.”
