German IT solutions developer acquires majority stake

German IT solutions developer SHD has acquired the majority of shares in British software specialist ArtiCAD, for an undisclosed sum.

Company founder Richard Turner and director of corporate sales Daniel Allerton will remain as shareholders and will be responsible for the development and sales strategy.

SHD was founded in 1983 and has focused on developing and implementing IT solutions for the kitchen and furniture retail channel.

The focus of the group is development and sales of ERP systems for furniture retailers, planning solutions for kitchen, bathroom and living rooms, as well as cross-industry solutions for warehousing, financial and planning.

It provides software, hardware and services to more than 2,000 companies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands and employs 380 people.

ArtiCAD was founded in 1992, specialises in the development and marketing of visual design software for the kitchen, bedroom and bathroom industry, and employs 50 people.

Its ArtiCAD-Pro and BathCAD software is sued by more than 7,500 designers in the UK, with users also in North America, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
