The British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI) has confirmed the Secretary of State for Apprenticeships and Skills, The Rt.Hon Robert Halfon MP, has granted approval for the development of a KBB apprenticeship.

The Trailblazer Apprenticeship Standard will cover kitchen, bedroom and bathroom installation and will be designed to deliver competence, underpinning knowledge and understanding to meet the requirements of the industry.

CEO of the BiKBBI Damian Walters said: “I can confirm that I will be meeting with our own Educational Taskforce, in preparation for a meeting with representatives from the Department for Education, various interested employers and organisation and the Construction Industry training Board (CITB) on March 1. The objective of both meetings is to ensure that our area of the industry is fully represented in the development of this exciting new apprenticeship.”

Members of the BiKBBI Educational Taskforce include its Installation Standard Partners B&Q, Bathstore, John Lewis and Omega, as well as Homebase, Wickes and Wren.

The group also has representation from The Furniture Makers Company, Trading Standards and a number of SME installers.

It is expected progression from the apprenticeship could lead to supervisory or management roles, over time, providing a career progression pathway for newcomers to the industry.
