Birmingham-based kitchen, bathroom and bedroom manufacturer Mereway has expanded its 17,500sqft factory by 2,000sq ft.

The £500,000 investment at its Amington Road premises will create 10 jobs for the company, which is predicting to double its turnover in the next five years.

The factory, which was the original production plant, when the company was founded 30 years ago will now include a new packing and dispatch area, office and improved staff canteen.

In addition, Mereway has upgraded facilities in the factory, including new spraying booths for the production of flat matt painted doors and bespoke kitchen features.

It is one of four production sites, operated by the company, which supplies a network of around 500 independent retailers and John Lewis.

Managing director of John Lewis Andy Street joined Mereway owners Bob and Richard Norris to mark the opening of the extension.

Joint managing director Richard Norris commented: “This is an important milestone for our continued expansion in our 30th year. Despite the challenges that lie ahead, we are confident that we can maintain our ambitious plans for growth, developing new products and strengthening our presence in the kitchen market.”
