Chief executive of the BMA Tom Reynolds said no conclusion has been reached: “An end to brochures would undoubtedly achieve some environmental benefits.

“However, we know many consumers like to flick through a brochure or assemble moods boards in the buying process. So this is a difficult issue but we’re not shying away from the debate.

“It’s not about telling manufacturers what to do one way or the other, but about having a lively debate to challenge all our thinking.”

The Sustainability Forum will also include water efficiency policy, waste reduction, demonstrating carbon credentials and the bathrooms of the future.
