Sleep suggests hotel market is recession proof

We talk to exhibitors at Sleep about their bathroom launches

Trade exhibition for hotel design, Sleep once again opened its doors with exhibitors exclaiming it to be a success and, arguably, having even more energy than the show last year.

Certainly the hotel and hospitality market hasn’t been hit by the economic climate to the same extent as retail. In fact, according to the director of export and global project sales for Laufen, Russell Barnes: “Worldwide, this hotel and hospitality industry seems to be completely recession free. It’s been a booming year.”

UK and international architects, interior designers and hotel operators attended the two-day event, which also included the Sleep Conference. And they were offered a range of products across the board to meet the needs of budget hotels through to luxury, high-end specifications.

We went to visit bathroom exhibitors at the show, to find out what being launched to the hotel sector and found bespoke shower enclosures and spa-inspired brassware, not to mention a wide variety of materials from PVD, to bespoke composite and acrylics. It will be these products which not only help create on-trend hotel bathroom interiors but which will inspire future domestic design.

Certainly the confidence in the hospitality and hotel market seems to be unabated and hopefully high street retail sales will be able to mirror this in 2014 and the years ahead.
