Both manufacturers have cited the “uncertainty” of the climate as the reason for their decision to cancel their appearance at the show, which takes place at the NEC in Birmingham from March 6-9.

Managing director of Abode Matthew Pitt commented: “In the interests of our customers and further growth of the brand, we have decided that the best option for the Abode business is to not exhibit at Kbb 2022 in Birmingham this March as originally planned.

“Instead, we will be redirecting our marketing efforts across various initiatives which are less affected by the current uncertainty and COVID-related disruption.”

Abode says the decision will free up time and resources, raising awareness across all platforms, to support its customers over a longer period.

Pitt added: “We are committed to the success of Abode customers, which is why we have scheduled a range of marketing campaigns, retail initiatives, awareness campaigns and new media content that offer a heightened level of exposure for our brand and products in the interest of inspiring your customers.”

Hettich said it was committed to Kbb Birmingham in the long-term but the uncertainty of the pandemic over “the coming weeks” caused it to cancel its appearance.

Marketing manager of Hettich UK Colin Patterson said: “This has not been an easy decision to make but given the current situation regarding the COVID pandemic and the uncertainty of how things will develop over the coming weeks, we have no alternative but to prioritise the health and safety of our staff, customers and third parties.

“Hettich remains committed to the Kbb show in the long-term and this decision is purely based on the current circumstances.”

Organiser of Kbb Birmingham Informa has reported “strong” visitor pre-registration for the 2022 event, and more than 200 exhibitors confirmed to appear at the show.

kbb Birmingham sales director Jon Johnston said: “We’re sorry that Hettich and Abode have made the decision to not exhibit at our upcoming show, however we still have strong support from the rest of the industry and are positive that we’ll put on an excellent event.

“With over 200 exhibitors on our floorplan, and a robust health and safety plan for everyone at the show, we’re confident that kbb Birmingham 2022 will be a success and we look forward to welcoming you in March!”
