Architect Ab Rogers is set to deliver the visual theme for May Design Series

Architect Ab Rogers, who was the visionary behind the look of the May Design Series, will once again be creating the aesthetic of the show held at Excel in London’s Docklands from May 18-20.

This year, the theme of the May Design Series will be ‘sustainability’, with primarily cardboard tubes to form the basis of the vista. They will provide a spectrum of colours, with the practicality of sound absorption and screening for areas such as the Conversation Series theatre which will cover retail and contract seminar topics.

Ab Rogers explains: “We’re using bright, multi-coloured cardboard tubes, placed closely together, to create an acoustic separation. The cardboard tubes are of various scales of thickness and dimensions, inviting visitors to engage and move in and out of the spaces around them.”

The cardboard tubes will also be used for the DX Bar area, to support the structure itself, which will be lit by an ‘illuminated cloud’.

In addition, he will also be creating an LED canopy to create a ‘diffused glow of light’ over the exhibition.

The May Design Series features five design districts including Kitchen & Bathroom (formerly kbbLDN), Lighting (incorporating Arc), DX, Decor and this year sees the addition of the The Furniture Show, following the inclusion of Interiors UK, and bringing the number of exhibiting brands near 300.

Rogers commented on the growth of the show: “I think it’s fantastic; the grander we can make it, the biggest it becomes; the more of an experience visitors will get. It will start to feel like a European trade show. I believe that in collaboration with May Design Series we can create an international impact.”
