Product safety notices have been issued for several appliance brands’  heat pump tumble dryers due to fire risk, with owners told to stop using them immediately.

According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards, safety reports affect certain heat pump dryer models across Hoover, Candy, Baumatic, Caple, Haier, Iberna, Lamona and Montpelier brands.

The Safety Reports have been issued for 27 models which do not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 and are at risk of an internal short circuit, which can cause the tumble dryer to ignite.

All manufacturers involved have initiated a modification programme and appliance owners are advised to contact them directly (see below).

Owners can check whether they have an affected product by checking their model number and serial number and following the instructions in the manufacturers’ websites.
