Alongside The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, furniture fittings company Blum is celebrating its own seventieth anniversary.

Blum posts 25% increase in turnover

Established on March 1, 1952, in Austria,  Blum originally made horse horseshoe studs after the founder, Julius Blum who was a farrier, realised they would help keeping the horses’ shoes on and stop them slipping in adverse weather.

Six years later, the company made its first furniture hinge and started a business which now has to subsidiaries throughout the world.

Still family-owned, Blum now has a turnover of over €2.3 billion Euros, employs 8,000 people and boasts an apprentice programme.

In the UK, its headquarters are in Milton Keynes which has recently been awarded city status, as part of the celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

During 70 years of business, it has developed hinges, drawer runners and lift systems for wall units, all with a lifetime guarantee.

These sales are supported by a technical department which is open 12 hours a day, every weekday, as well as Saturday mornings and a retail services department which aids retailers in showing Blum products to their best advantage.

Marketing team Leader Lisa Robinson commented: “Hard work and determination spawn new opportunities.

“At the heart of it all is our commitment to improve not just our products, but the service and support we offer all our partners. It’s in our nature.”
