Ben Burbidge to lead tour of up to 50 riders from London to Bordeaux

The Furniture Maker’s Company is set to tackle a 470 mile bike ride from London to Bordeaux and is looking for cyclists to take part, raising money for its charity.

It starts outside the Guild Hall in London on September 11, led by senior warden and the Furniture Marker’s Company Master of 2016 Ben Burbidge.

Following stops for French food and wine, the peloton is expected to arrive in Bordeaux on September 16.

The tour has been created for up to 50 cyclists committed to raising a minimum of £1,000 each for The Furniture Makers’ Company.

The association supports the education of students, provides help to those in need and champions excellence for the furniture industry.

Ben Burbidge commented: “This is a challenging bike ride which will see cyclists averaging around 78 miles a day. It’s a great opportunity to support the valuable work done by the charity as well as having fun and boosting health and fitness.

“We hope to be waved off from the City of London by the lord mayor and pedal into Bordeaux to a civic reception in the wine growing capital of France having enjoyed a six day escapade in the saddle. Our route covers undulating lanes and quiet cycleways making the most of some of the best bike routes in the south of England, North West and mid France.”

“There are still a few places left on the ride and for anyone looking for a personal challenge for 2016, this is a perfect fit. I can’t wait for a two-wheeled adventure to remember.”

The ride has been organised in conjunction with Saddle Skedaddle, a specialist cycling company, and costs £1,300 per person covering six nights’ accommodation, food and refreshments and bike transportation back to the UK.
