During his time with the company, it has grown to occupy a 26-acre site with the acquisition of Belling, New World, Lec and, most recently, Britannia Living, which now forms part of the GDHA Range Cooker Division.
Short has also witnessed the company change its focus from production solely for the domestic market to employ 1,000 people and, as well serving the UK market, export across the globe.
Speaking of his retirement, Colin Short said: “I’ve witnessed a huge amount of change in the industry over my 50 years and I’m proud to have been part of the GDHA business for such a long time. I’ve made from fantastic friends and will miss the team.”
CEO of Glen Dimplex Home Appliances, Denver Hewlett commented: “We are sorry to see Colin go, but he deserves to take things easy after 50 loyal years. We are very proud to be a company which retains its staff. In many cases, we’ve employed multiple generations of the same family. We wish Colin all the very best and thank him for his loyalty and hard work.”
