UK Government is calling for businesses’ to help shape its response to US reciprocal tariffs introduced on most imports from the UK from April 5.
It follows the 10% reciprocal tariffs, and 25% additional tariffs on UK steel and aluminium imports, announced by the Trump administration.
Information gathered by the UK Government will help it assess the scope and impacts of any UK tariff measures.

The Business and Trade Secretary has also published a long list of products imported from the US that may be considered in a future UK response.
Covering 27% of imports from the US – chosen because they would have a “more limited impact” on the UK economy, the Department for Business and Trade said – The Sun reports the 8,000-stong list includes toilet seats.
UK Government pointed out the inclusion of a product on this list does not mean that it will appear in any UK tariff response, should the UK choose to impose tariffs on US goods at all.
Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds said: “The best interests of British business has shaped our approach throughout as we prepare for all scenarios, which is why we are asking them for their views on how these tariffs impact their operations and day-to-day lives.
“Our cool-headed, pragmatic approach means that talks with the US will continue to reflect our mandate to deliver economic stability, as we press the case for a trading relationship that supports businesses on both sides of the Atlantic, and reflects our Plan for Change and the best interests of the UK public.”
The UK Government is engaging separately with affected industries and stakeholders, on the impacts of US tariffs.
This request for input closes at 11:59pm on May 1, 2025, as the UK Government states it cannot guarantee that responses received after this date will be considered.
