Home design platform Houzz has revealed the biggest consumer struggles when seeking design and build professionals, with “trust” the number one issue.
Nearly half of homeowners said finding someone they trust was their biggest struggle when employing design and construction professionals (49%) for home renovations, according to a recent Houzz survey
The survey found a lack of communication was also problematic for consumers, with 34% citing issues with clear and detailed proposals or estimates (34%), and 30% stating difficulties with timely and accurate communication (30%).

It showed a positive renovation experience begins before the project starts and Houzz stated designers, renovators and builders can help by giving fast, detailed estimates, communicating clearly and laying out the project step-by-step for the homeowner.
Once the project kicks off, homeowners stated transparency and communication can make or break the experience .
More than a quarter of homeowners wished they had received better communication from the professionals they hired (31%), while 17% of homeowners said a clear project timeline would have improved their experience.
Consumers were also keen to know exactly how the finished space would look, with more transparency about the costs involved, reported Houzz.
It could be particularly important for consumers who are looking to create bigger bathrooms as part of their home refurbishment.
Houzz suggested its upgraded Houzz Pro could help improve communications, as it includes a project schedule, daily updates, 3D floor plans, invoices and messages, allowing consumers to review design choices, follow progress and make payments.
The online survey was fielded in November-December 2024 to Houzz users in the UK who are in the midst of, are planning, or recently completed a kitchen or bathroom renovation in 2024 and plans for 2025.
