Creating an iKBBI-approved Centre of Excellence for KBB apprentice fitters

The Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installers (iKBBI) has announced a collaboration with Prospects College of Advance Technologies (PROCAT) to create a Centre of Excellence for KBB apprentice fitters.

It will see around 1,000 16-19 year olds become iKBBI Apprentice Members by Christmas 2015, with the institute committed to grow this number to 5,000 by the end of 2017 in a national roll-out.

The iKBBI will work with PROCAT, which operates over four centres in Essex, with a view of developing KBB modules to add to the existing syllabus which includes Construction Maintenance, Plumbing and Carpentry & Joinery.

iKBBI CEO Damian Walters commented: “Our South-East based pilot will link the iKBBI with, not only the UK’s leading technical college focused on advanced apprenticeships, but also to thousands of school leavers and college students, especially those already interested in a career within the construction industry.”

He continued: “The subject of apprenticeships for our industry should be viewed as a demonstrable challenge; however with a staged approach, starting with the research and development phase, I’m confident that over time we’ll be the vehicle for young people to join our industry and a place for reputable businesses who operate within the sector, to find and employ these students as the next generation of future professionals.”
