Liebherr ravaged by fire

An investigation starts today into the fire that destroyed Liebherr premises at Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire.

According to Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service, the blaze “100% destroyed” the two storey building, which included both the distribution warehouse and office, although no-one was hurt. Sixty firefighters and officers were called out to the scene.

The blaze caused two local roads to be shut and the smoke, which reportedly could be seen for many miles, was the reason for more than 70 emergency calls.

The 45,000 square foot warehousing facility was operated by Coolectric, the importer for Liebherr commercial and consumer appliances in the UK, which is part of the Crown Imperial Group.

Managing director of Coolectric, Mark Bristow, said “I am pleased that all of the staff in the building and neighbouring premises were able to evacuate to safety and nobody has been hurt or injured. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the emergency services and local authorities for their swift response to the incident”.

Bristow announced  the entire stock of 7,000 consumer and commercial refrigeration units in the warehouse has been completely destroyed, however he was working with Liebherr factories to replenish stocks as soon as possible.

Contingency operational plans are in hand and new premises have already been sourced to store and distribute new stock as it arrives in to the country. Service and support staff who are field based continue to operate as normally as possible.

The office will re-start on January 20,  with telephone and operational systems being reinstated in temporary accommodation.
