Colombian designer wins global appliance contest

Electrolux named the Mab flying robot concept by Colombian designer Adrian Perez Zapata as winner of its Design Lab competition at the Fotografiska Museum in Stockholm, Sweden.

The global contest allows students to present ideas on future household appliances and this year the theme was Inspired Urban Living, with the winning design showcasing how mini robots could work collaboratively to clean a room.

Perez Zapata scooped the first prize of 5,000 Euros and a six-month paid internship at Electrolux global design centre, as well as the People’s Choice Award decided by online voting ,

Second prize was presented to the Atomium 3D food printer by Luiza Silva from Brazil, who won 3,000 Euros and third prize of 2,000 Euros was given to Jeabyun Yeon from Korea for Breathing Wall.

Over 1,700 submissions from over 60 countries were shortlisted into just eight finalists for Design Lab 2013.
