Winner of Mybuilder.com Worst Kitchen in Britain competition has makeover

Following a nationwide competition to find Britain’s Worst Kitchen, mybuilder.com awarded a makeover prize to Jeanette Angel from Colchester of £3,000 labour matched by Benchmarxx who supplied the furniture and appliances.

The kitchen had a hole in the ceiling, needed rewiring, featured units and charity shop cabinets that weren’t fit for purpose and had a sink installed by a friend of the owner.

It was voted as the most worthy of winning the makeover by 2,900 people who visited the mybuilder.com website.

Kitchen designers from Benchmarx in Chelmsford Annette Murray and Russell Saunders were responsible for the project, which was installed by Matthew Woodgate of Property TLC

Created in a Victorian terrace, the kitchen has been based upon a walkthrough design with appliances positioned to make sure safety was paramount and minimise the chance of an accident around the oven.

Winner Jeanette Angel asked for a look that complemented the home and reflect the period in which the house was built and asked for a ceramic sink. And to keep within budget upstands were replaced by tiles, for a cost-effective alternative.

She commented on her new kitchen makeover: “I didn’t think that in my lifetime we’d ever see a kitchen with such a high spec in this house. We would never have been able to afford it”.
