Pantone announces Classic Blue as colour of 2020

Classic Blue is now available as a colour, taste and sound

Global colour institute Pantone has announced Classic Blue (Pantone 19-4052) as its Colour of the Year for 2020.

If follows on from Living Coral, which was the colour of 2019, and Ultra Violet in 2018.

According to the institute, Classic Blue is suggestive of the sky at dusk with “the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking”.

Executive director of the Pantone Colour Institute Leatrice Eiseman stated: “We are living in a time that requires trust and faith.

“It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on.”

She continued:“Imbued with a deep resonance, Classic Blue provides an anchoring foundation.

“A boundless blue evocative of the vast and infinite evening sky, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication.”

According to the institure, blue is a restful colour and promises protection, as well as lends itself to relaxed interaction.

Pantone has also partnered with a range of companies to offer Classic Blue as a multi-sensory experience.

These include fragrance and flavour company Firminech and Tealeaves which are both providing the taste of ClassicBlue and audio user experience company which has created the Classic Blue Sample pack.
