Pantone announces colour of 2021

The Pantone Colour of the Year 2021 has been announced, which is actually a pairing of Illuminating (yellow) and Ultimate Gray [sic].

The colour institute reports Pantone 17-5014 Ultimate Gray + Pantone 13-0647 Illuminating are “two independent colours that highlight how different elements come together to support one another” and that they best express the mood for 2021.

It states Ultimate Gray is “practical and rock sold but at the same time warming and optimisitic” and that Illumating reflects strength and positivity, statig: “It is a story of colour that encapsulates deeper feelings of throughfulness, with the promise of something sunny and friendly.”

The combination of the colours, according to Pantone is a message of “happiness supported by fortitude.”

Exectuive director of the Pantone Colour Institute Leatric Eiseman commented: “The Union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude.

“Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a colour combination that gives us resilience and hope.

“We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit.”

It follows on from Classic Blue, which was the Pantone colour of the year for 2020, which offered “reassuring qualities of [being] thought-provoking”, and Living Coral in 2019.
