Online retailer Sanctuary Bathrooms has donated £1,000 to Special Needs and Parents Support (SNAPS Yorkshire), after raising money in recognition of a tie-up with local boxer  Josh Warrington.

The Leeds-based, family-run firm raised money over the weekend of February 13-14, where £10 from every order made was donated to the charity and tied in with Warrington’s fight in London against Mauricio Lara.

This resulted in an initial figure of £710 being raised, which the company has topped up to the £1,000 mark.

SNAPS Yorkshire is a Leeds-based charity that provides life physiotherapy for children with additional needs and vital support for parents, carers and siblings.

Alongside these services, it also offers an inclusive football club, swimming lessons and recreational activities. Warrington became a patron of the charity in 2016.

The fundraising was undertaken by the company after they sponsored Warrington – nicknamed ‘The Leeds Warrior’ – with the Sanctuary Bathrooms logo on training clothing and his shorts for the fight against Lara.

A relationship between Sanctuary Bathrooms and Warrington came about after the boxer visited company director, Des Roberts, after having heart surgery in 2019.

As a result, the company – which is jointly run by Des and his two sons, James and Richard – wanted to repay his kindness by taking up sponsorship of the boxer.

In honour of his return to the ring, Sanctuary Bathrooms decided to support a charity close to the boxer’s heart, with SNAPS Yorkshire chosen as a smaller charity in the local area.

As the charity is currently unable to run face-to-face services, the money is going to be used to help provide alternatives such as activity packs for children in craft, baking and gardening, as well as remote physiotherapy sessions for children and counselling sessions for parents.

Speaking about the tie-up, and the charity fundraising, James Roberts commented: “As a local legend, we were stunned and humbled that Josh Warrington came to see my Dad when he was ill last year and required surgery.

“We couldn’t thank him enough for his kindness and so we felt it was right that we gave something back by sponsoring him and his team ahead of his big fight.

“To tie in with this, we felt it was a great opportunity to give something back to the local community too, especially given the current climate when many charities are struggling to raise money.

“We’re proud to support a charity like SNAPS Yorkshire that offers vital support to children with special needs and their families, and one that, as a patron, is close to Josh Warrington’s heart.”

Jenny Sellers, Community Fundraising Manager from SNAPS Yorkshire, also added: We have been incredibly grateful to have Josh Warrington as a patron of SNAPS for a number of years and we are thrilled that he put us forward to be supported by Sanctuary Bathrooms.”

“As a small charity, we rely on the generosity of companies like Sanctuary Bathrooms to keep supporting children with additional needs and their families in the local area during this difficult time and we cannot thank them enough for raising such a fantastic amount in just one weekend!”
