It will be used to consult with clients from initial planning and permissions through to the finishing touches and will be a showroom for The Blackwell Company bespoke kitchens.

Made in the Scottish Borders, the kitchens are available in Isle of Skye Paints, which are produced sustainably and contain natural seaweed.

In addition, the lower floor of the studio will house Ella Fletcher Designs – a potter who works in stoneware ceramics.

Her vases mugs, jugs and vases are available to buy in-store.

The Blackwell Company provides principal contractor services, from initial planning through to site management, with particular skills in working on heritage and period properties.

Architectural design and planning advice comes from local architect Mary Carslaw – who has worked in Glasgow, London and Edinburgh on residential and commercial projects, including listed buildings.

In addition, the studio plays host to interior designer Rebecca Gough-Cooper of Georgia Victoria @The Blackwell Company.

Managing director Luke Blackwell commented: “As well as the traditional trades you’d expect, we wanted to bring something else to our design studio – construction is a creative industry just as much as a practical one, as we love the idea of having different skills and sectors all working alongside each other.

“We’re really delighted to have the design studio open, and to have created may new jobs and potential for many more in what has been an uncertain year for business.”
