The company was founded by colliery manager Arthur Gerald Shaw who noticed the ‘spoil’ brought up from the Darwen coal mine was, in fact, quality fireclay.

He built his own factory in Darwen, Lancashire, and began production with the time-honoured techniques passed down through generations, with many of the Victorian models still in production.

Shaws of Darwen has a number of plans to celebrate this remarkable anniversary.  It has released images of a unique heart-shaped concept sink, since it was founded on Valentine’s Day.

While there are no immediate plans to put this into production, a strong reaction from designers and consumers could influence that decision reports the company.

Each Shaws sink is handmade at its factory, takes three to four weeks to make, and carries an impression on its base of the name of the master craftsman who created it.

To commemorate the anniversary a special stamp with a unique 125 mark will also be used.

Every Shaws sink comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a Lifetime Warranty, making every product an investment for now and the future.

Shaws of Darwen has recently introduced the six-strong decorative Gallery Collection, with abstract and illustrative patterned prints, taking inspiration from nature.
