British sculptor of the “sliding house” in Margate, Kent, Alex Chinneck will create a flagship installation for Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) from May 20-22.
Located at new venue Charterhouse Square, the installation has been commissioned by CDW for its 2025 event, which is forecast to be its biggest yet.
The Charterhouse is a historic complex of buildings and courtyard gardens, which dates back to the 14th century, and will feature bathroom brands including Geberit, Toto, Bette, C.P. Hart and Victoria + Albert Baths.

The installation promises a return for the artist to sculpting with brick and playing with architectural elevations.
In 2013, Chinneck completed a “sliding house” in Margate (pictured), furnished with curving bricks, curving windows and a curving door.
His new sculpture will revisit this sculptural language while introducing an element of interactivity.
It will use repurposed steel, salvaged from the demolition of another building in London, thanks to the sponsorship of Cleveland Steel.
Developed with the support of Crittall Windows, FabSpeed and Michelmersh Brick Holdings PLC and the installation will remain on display for several weeks after the festival.
