We outline what you can expect to see at the London design show

Once again, the 100% Design show will return to London, attracting design professionals to the event at Earl’s Court from September 18-21. Last year’s outing saw 25,096 visitors attend, most of which were interior designers and architects, making it the biggest design event in the UK according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation. And this year will see a similar format. It will retain the central hub with entrance to four show sections: Kitchens & Bathrooms; Interiors; Eco, Design & Build; Emerging Brands; Office. The Kitchens & Bathrooms section will include brands such as Bulthaup, Dornbracht, Corian and Keramag and an installation to explore design’s role in the future of food preparation.

Exploring food relationship

The centrally positioned installation, The Farm Kitchen, has been conceived by creative studio Mette and will be will showcase the possibility for domestic-scale food production, within a kitchen. Incorporating the show’s restaurant and a food-growing production line, the space will plot the journey from plant cultivation, through to preparation, and onto plate in a social space. Creative director of Mette, Caroline Santos comments on the installation: “Growing and self-sustainability is undoubtedly a reality for the future of kitchen and interior design.” She continues: “But nothing exists in isolation. We envisage an approach where micro-agriculture co-exists alongside other strong design concepts; integrated seamlessly into our busy lifestyles and diverse tastes; enhancing not replacing, our personal design preferences.”

Talking design sense

Alongside the manufacturers and installations is a series of live discussions Talks with 100% Design, with headline speakers architect Richard Rogers and design luminary Giulio Cappellini. In addition, there will be talks on Experience Design, with interior architects Shed speaking on the Narrative of Design. These will be held alongside seminars from the British Council, Design Council and British Institute of Interior Design.
