Women Installers Together conference, which takes place on July 4 at The Camden in London, has announced TV presenter Konnie Huq as guest speaker.

Women Installers Together Conference names celebrity speaker

Huq was the longest-serving female presenter of children’s TV show Blue Peter, co-wrote a Black Mirror episode “Fifteen Million Minutes” and authored children’s books.

The eight annual event, organised by Stopcocks Women Plumbers is by-and-for all tradeswomen in UK, and this year will be themed upon “Looking After Ourselves”.

Founder and host Hattie Hasan MBE will lead proceedings and provide the keynote speech, followed by roundtable discussions where tradeswomen share their experiences and self-care.

The event will include Five Minutes of Fame, where tradeswomen around the room, take up the mic and guest speaker Konnie Huq will also share her story.

Completing the conference programme are networking opportunities and a raffle.

Hattie Hasan started the event because she recognised the isolation of tradeswomen.

Although construction companies are now recruiting specialists in DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), the Women Installers Together conference reports only 2% of plumbers are women, with only 1% of gas engineers, plasters and electricians women.

It further reports only 6% of the painting and decorating industry are women.

This year the event is sponsored by Mark Vitow, Impey/Coram, LCL Awards, Octopus Energy, Resideo, Sureserve, Monument Tools, Halcyon Water Conditioners, SMG, On The Tools, City Plumbing, Vaillant UK and Mira Showers.

Tickets are free for tradeswomen and trainees, courtesy of the sponsors, and £60 for allies and interested parties
