David Burbidge OBE presented with CBE for philanthropy

Chair of kitchen furniture manufacturer Burbidge, David Burbidge has been presented a CBE for his services to cultural philanthropy in the West Midlands.

David Burbidge who currently has an OBE received the title for his commitment to the local region, particularly in Coventry where he is leading the bid for the city to become UK City of Culture 2021.

Prior to this, Burbidge was chairman of Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre until 2998, where he assisted in a management change and £14million projects.

He was also a main board member for the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) where he oversaw the £112million transformation of its theatres.

David Burbidge commented: “I am incredibly honoured to receive a CBE for my services to cultural philanthropy in the West Midlands. I have always had a strong interest in arts and culture and look forward to continuing to being involved with this sector.”

Managing director of Burbidge and his son Ben Burbidge added: “It is wonderful to see my father, our chairman, honoured in the Queen’s birthday honours. He really has had a tremendous impact on both the local and wider area over the years and we’re thrilled to see his contributions recognised in this way.”

Burbidge will be celebrating its 150th anniversary next year.
