Home appliance brand Grundig has reportedly introduced the world’s first washing machine with an integrated synthetic microfibre filter.
According to the manufacturer, it catches 90% of synthetic fibres released only during synthetic wash cycles to protect waterways and oceans.
The Grundig FiberCatcher washing machine has three programmes that catch synthetic microfibres.
When the specialist filter is full, it is returned to Grundig and is sent to a specialist company to be recycled.
Parent company Beko Plc formed part of an All-Party Parliamentary Group to call on Government to tackle microplastics and mandate all washing machines have a microfibre filter.
