SBID announces 2016 Award winners

UK designer wins global award for kitchen, bedroom or bathroom projects

The Society of International and British Design (SBID) named the winners of its awards at The Dorchester Hotel in London, presenting honours for projects around the globe.

There were 15 award categories, spanning residential and commercial design, and which included KBB Design, Show flats and Developments, Residential Design over £1million and Residential Design under £1million.

Diane Berry of Diane Berry Kitchens from Manchester, UK, scooped the KBB Design Award for her Gold & Black Kitchen designed for a home in Sussex. She beat 15 finalists to take the honour, with a project that featured an L-shaped kitchen island made from granite and golden glass with angled edges.

This was complemented by a backdrop of black glass units and Sub-Zero fridges which had been sprayed black.

While the Show Flats and Developments award was presented to Canadian II by IV Design for its Presentation Centre at University Avenue in Toronto (pictured  partner Dan Menchions and vice president of marketing and operations Melissa Van Loon).

Toronto-based II by IV Design beat 14 finalists with a project that featured kitchen, bath and lifestyle vignettes, as well as a sales area and scaled model of the final building.

The presentation centre featured wall panelling which combined geometric shapes finished in lacquer, upholstery, chromed mirror and marble. While the vignettes featured cove lighting, under-lit counters, down lights suspended between floating ceiling planes and contemporary decorative lighting.

The award for Residential Design over £1million was presented to Beijing-based David Chang Design Associates for its Runze Palace Villa project in Beijing, China. 

While the award for Residential Design over £1million was presented to Munich-based Landau + Kindelbacker Architekten – Innenarchitekten for a chalet in Kitzbuhel, Austria
