Charity fundraising target of £250,000 beaten by £64,000

PWS’s charity project Blood, Sweat & Gears, which saw a team cycle 500km through South Africa has raised £314,000 for Help for Heroes.

The original target of £250,000, set by CEO of PWS Mark Stephenson, was exceeded when the cycle ride was completed in May. However, following further donations and events, the amount grew by £64,000.

According to PWS, it is the highest amount raised in 2016 or any third-party fundraising challenge for Help for Heroes.

The charity has confirmed the money will fund three psychological wellbeing advisors, for three years, who will help wounded, injured and sick service personnel, veterans and their families.

Interim manager of Phoenix House, the Help for Heroes Northern recovery centre, Melanie Dickinson said: “We never doubted that Mark, PWS and all their supported would reach their huge target of £250,00 but for them to surpass it, by so much, is simply outstanding. It will go a long way to supporting beneficiaries with mental illness, enabling us to help change more lives and, in some cases, save lives.”
